Simba

I am sorry to tell you that Simba passed away this past Saturday, May 17th. He had been losing weight but was eating pretty well. On Saturday, I could tell that he had noticeably lost weight from the previous week and he just didn't look well. I am sure the heat was not helping. I tried feeding him some treat food and he gave a few half-hearted licks. I tried offering him chicken and he was not interested in that either which made me know something was wrong - he loves chicken! I was able to pick him up and get him in a carrier all too easily - which if you know Simba, he is normally quite elusive.

I took him down to Canyon and we discovered that he was in massive kidney failure and had severe dentalSimba disease. Poor guy!! If it was just the kidneys, we would have tried to treat him with fluids, etc and see how he responded. But because of the issue with his teeth, it was decided that the most humane thing for him, would be to put him to sleep.

Simba came to Blue Bell in a group of 5 kittens in 1998 I believe - Simba, Char, Misty and 2 others who have since passed away. He loved chicken and treat foods and although he was elusive and wouldn't let most people get too close, once he got to know you and trusted you, he would rub up against your legs and let you brush him. Donna was the closest with him and he would let her brush him all day long!

I will miss him and his begging for food and chicken, and sitting in the window seat and having him rub against my legs and brushing him and the occasional time he would let me pick him up and rest him on my lap for a few seconds. Most of all, he will be missed by Misty and Mittens who were his cuddle-mates.
